The THC Concentration Difference After CBD Pretreatment Was Nonsignificant

The CBD-plus-THC group had a numerically higher median THC measurement, but the between-group concentration difference did not reach statistical significance. It cannot establish that increased THC exposure caused the observed task pattern.

What was compared

Healthy volunteers received either 20 mg oral THC after placebo or the same THC dose after 800 mg CBD. The paper reported a higher median THC value in the pretreatment group at its later sampling assessment, while explicitly describing the concentration comparison as nonsignificant. These were parallel groups rather than each participant receiving both active regimens.

A plausible mechanism remained a hypothesis

The discussion considered higher THC levels as a possible contributor to more pronounced findings in the combination group. That is a mechanistic interpretation, not a demonstrated mediation result. A single later measurement is also narrower evidence than a complete exposure curve. It cannot independently identify absorption, clearance or the total exposure difference.

Keep measured and inferred findings separate

It is accurate to report the numerical direction and the null statistical comparison together. It is not accurate to describe this trial as proving that CBD raised THC concentrations and thereby worsened cognition. The regimen, small selected male sample, collection timing and outcome-specific comparisons all remain relevant. Other studies may address pharmacokinetic interactions, but their findings should be attributed separately.
