Portable THC Reviews Count Laboratory Methods, Prototypes and Commercial Devices as Different Categories

A 2024 systematic review included 89 studies across laboratory techniques, portable sensor research and commercial devices. That total should not be presented as 89 independently validated portable THC products.

The study categories describe different maturity levels

The review identified 57 studies of conventional separation techniques, alongside optical and electrochemical sensor studies and commercial-device reports. A laboratory reference method, an experimental sensor and a marketed product occupy different roles in an evidence comparison.

Miniaturization does not settle quantitative accuracy

A small device may offer practical advantages while still facing selectivity, stability and specimen-interference challenges. The review described particular limitations for quantitative measurements. Detecting a target is not the same as reliably measuring its amount across authentic biofluids.

Commercial readiness requires more than a promising response

The authors emphasized durable sensors, reduced nonspecific interactions and resistance to matrix interference. Those development needs limit a claim that every technology in the review is ready for routine on-site use. Device-specific evidence remains necessary.

Interpreting the evidence

For a technology comparison, classify the evidence before comparing performance numbers. This synthesis maps a development landscape rather than certifying every listed approach. It does not establish that a portable concentration measurement, even if accurate, directly determines impairment.

A CBD Performance Meta-Analysis Found a Small Pooled Effect Driven More by Subjective Sedation

A 2024 meta-analysis found a small overall CBD–placebo performance difference, with larger effects on subjective measures such as sedation than on objective tasks. Reporting only the pooled result would conceal that important distinction. The analysis concerned acute controlled exposure Sixteen trials contributed to the primary synthesis of effects within eight…

Eyelid Tremor and Impaired Visual Control Are Different Findings in Cannabis Eye-Movement Research

A systematic review distinguished an eyelid sign associated with cannabis consumption from eye-movement functions relevant to impairment. An exposure-associated observation should not automatically be treated as a direct measure of visual attention or motor control. The evidence included three study categories The review included 20 articles spanning acute dosing experiments,…
