A Later Oral-Fluid THC Median Did Not Establish a Rebound in the Same Person

An oral-fluid cannabis study reported a slightly higher median THC concentration in a late time bin than in an earlier bin. The sampling design helps explain why that does not demonstrate a new rise within an individual.

Repeated smoking with scheduled collections

Eleven frequent cannabis smokers lived on a closed unit during a protocol containing oral THC periods and intervals of freely chosen cannabis smoking. Oral fluid was collected with Quantisal at scheduled clock times on selected smoking days. Analyses grouped specimens by time since the most recent smoking episode.

The bins contained different contributions

Frequent smokers contributed more observations close to smoking, while less frequent smokers contributed more later observations. The longest intervals mainly contained morning specimens collected before that day’s smoking period began. A pooled sequence of medians therefore was not a single person’s elimination curve.

Why the apparent rise matters

The authors explicitly noted concentration spikes and the imbalance between time bins. Comparing the medians without those details could suggest a rebound or new consumption that the comparison itself did not demonstrate. Parent THC, CBN and the metabolite THC-COOH also followed different profiles and were measured in different concentration ranges.

The inference must match the design

These were oral-fluid findings in a small, selected frequent-user cohort, not whole-blood values or impairment measurements. Multiple specimens were nested within people and smoking episodes. The study supports careful interpretation of sampling and pooling; it does not establish that any particular late increase proves new use, continued impairment or a universal detection window.

Similar Temperature Tolerance Did Not Make THC and JWH Cannabinoids Interchangeable

THC and two synthetic cannabinoids all produced tolerance to hypothermia in mice, but that shared outcome did not make their pharmacology or risk equivalent. Other effects and regional adaptations differed. A comparison of different agonists Researchers compared THC with JWH-018 and JWH-073 using telemetry and laboratory receptor assays. The acute…
