The CBD Scan-Anxiety Trial Measured Prescan Anxiety, Not Anxiety During the Scan

The trial’s acute anxiety assessment occurred after CBD dosing but generally before the scheduled cancer scan. It did not directly measure whether CBD reduced distress inside the scanner.

The two timing intervals were different

Participants received the study drug within 48 hours before a tumor-assessment scan. Anxiety was reassessed two to four hours after ingestion. The reported average interval from ingestion to the scan was approximately 1.4 days, rather than the same interval as the immediate outcome measurement.

An anticipatory stressor differs from procedural distress

Fear of results, cancer progression and the unknown can occur before a procedure. Physical discomfort or claustrophobia during a scan constitutes another setting. The trial’s prescan model did not independently isolate all these components or establish how long any acute effect persisted.

The finding cannot be extended across the entire appointment

The primary anxiety-change comparison was nonsignificant, while a post-dose secondary comparison favored CBD. Neither established continuous relief from dosing through imaging and receipt of results. An account should retain both clocks: time after drug and time before the scan. This prevents an acute measurement from becoming a claim about efficacy during the procedure, durability over several days or improved cancer outcomes.

The CBD Scan Trial Used Equal Allocation Despite Planning a Two-to-One Ratio

The scan-anxiety study ultimately randomized twenty-five participants to each treatment. The paper disclosed that its original sample-size plan anticipated a two-to-one allocation instead. Participants still underwent randomized assignment, and…
