CBD Withdrawal Testing Included Positive Controls That Did Show Discontinuation Effects

A controlled rat program summarized in the review found no physiological or behavioral withdrawal signs after stopping purified botanical CBD, while morphine and diazepam comparison groups did show changes. The positive controls strengthen interpretation of the null result within that protocol.

The program examined several animal groups

The review describes adult and juvenile rats, including males and females, receiving repeated CBD before discontinuation. Signs were monitored after dosing stopped. This was a spontaneous-discontinuation assessment, which asks a different question from giving a receptor antagonist to precipitate a response.

The comparator groups demonstrated detectable changes

After morphine or diazepam was stopped, the program observed changes involving body temperature, body weight, food intake and adverse clinical signs. Corresponding physiological or behavioral withdrawal signs were not observed after CBD. The contrast is more useful than a bare statement that nothing happened, because it shows that the testing arrangement detected discontinuation-related effects in other groups.

A negative result is bounded by the experiment

The finding does not prove absence of every possible effect after every duration or exposure pattern. Nor does it establish a discontinuation rule for an individual patient. The study assessed the particular purified product and measured signs under specified animal conditions. Clinical decisions require information about the person, indication and other treatments.

Do not extend CBD findings to every cannabinoid

The reviewers note the absence of comparable published spontaneous-withdrawal reports for some other non-intoxicating cannabinoids. A prediction about those substances has a different evidential basis from the actual CBD experiment. Similarly, this result does not describe stopping a THC-containing mixture. Substance identity, withdrawal procedure and the signs actually observed must stay attached to the conclusion.

Related analysis: reinforcement, motivation and withdrawal as separate outcomes.

Acute Alpha-Pinene Tolerability Did Not Establish Long-Term Inhalation Safety

The alpha-pinene experiment supplied short-term human tolerability information under monitored conditions. It did not establish the safety of repeated inhalation over months or years. The experiment had a defined observation window Nineteen selected healthy adults completed the trial’s treatment conditions, with outcomes followed for six hours after exposure. Alpha-pinene alone…

The older-driver review did not see obvious publication bias on funnel-plot inspection. Removing One Study Reduced Cannabis Crash-Estimate Heterogeneity Without Producing Significance

A sensitivity analysis reduced inconsistency between the older-driver collision studies after one study was removed, but the pooled association remained nonsignificant. Greater consistency did not establish a precise or causal effect. The initial collision results varied substantially The review reported considerable heterogeneity among collision-involvement estimates. One included study showed a…
